MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, 12 March 2024:ย Tesserent Academy has announced the launch of a pilot with Toorak College to conduct a series of cybersecurity sessions with all 100 of the Collegeโs female students in Year 10.
Tesserent Academy is fully subsidising the cost of this unique initiative, commencing in term 1 ahead of International Womenโs Day and running through into Term 2, to help give female high school students a foundation in cybersecurity fundamentals.
Kristy Kendall, Principal, Toorak College says, “At Toorak College, we are committed to providing our students with the best opportunities to thrive in an ever-evolving world. Our corporate partnership with Tesserent is a testament to this commitment, as it allows us to offer invaluable industry immersion and insights to our senior school students.
โWe believe that early exposure to fields like cybersecurity and technology not only fosters curiosity and innovation but also empowers our students to explore diverse career pathways. Through this partnership, our students gain firsthand experience, mentorship, and access to cutting-edge resources, preparing them for success in the dynamic landscape of the digital age. We are excited about the possibilities this collaboration brings and the impact it will have on shaping the future leaders in cybersecurity and technology.”
Kurt Hansen, CEO, Tesserent, explains, โWeโre keen to bring cybersecurity education through Tesserent Academy to more high school students and encourage young girls to get inspired about a career path in cybersecurity. The industry desperately needs more cybersecurity talent to meet demand now and into the future and we are proud to champion and work to increase inclusiveness and foster a future pipeline of female talent.โ
Partnering together Tesserent Academy and Toorak College will provide access to all 100 female year 10 students with five 45-minute sessions. The sessions in Term 1 will include cybersecurity awareness training, understanding the cybersecurity landscape, laws, regulations and data privacy, and standards and controls.ย
โThis will help the Year 10 girls learn about how to a cyber-aware citizen and about how cybercriminals target people and the evolving tactics they are using. It will also empower them with advanced skills to protect their privacy online and what they can do to minimise the risk of their personal accounts and data being compromised,โ explains Kurt.ย ย
In Term 2, 20 students will be invited to participate in two practical sessions. The first session will engage students with practical exercises where they will learn about and implement defensive and offensive tactics. They will also delve into the world of security operations including looking at the threat landscape, threat intelligence, cloud computing, network security, endpoint security, physical security and incident response.ย
The second session will include a tour of Tesserentโs Security Operations Centre and a careers session with speakers from Tesserentโs expert team of more than 550 of the nationโs leading cybersecurity experts.ย ย
