Patel commented “…you need to have people with better design backgrounds. Because if you’re going to build a product for 8,000,000,000 users, You need to make sure that the product is being built by people that represent the demographic of your target audience.”

Patel emphasised the significant strides made by Cisco in the realm of cybersecurity, particularly in the integration of AI technologies. The presence of a robust leadership team, coupled with strategic investments and the development of groundbreaking products, has propelled Cisco’s leadership in the security landscape.

Furthermore, the discussion delves into the role of AI in cybersecurity, the need for regulatory collaboration, and the potential for industry consolidation around key platforms. The conversation also touches on pricing, potential model modernisation, and the complexities of operating with various vendors and ecosystems.

The conversation delved into the accelerating role of AI, specifically Generative AI (Gen AI), in bolstering cybersecurity efficacy. Patel articulated how the combination of AI and Gen AI, together with deep packet inspection and other sophisticated technologies, can lead to unparalleled efficacy in identifying and mitigating anomalies, thereby enhancing the overall security posture.

Patel went on to say “There’s a lot of unanswered questions in AI right now that still have to be talked to and figured out”.

Patel highlighted the potential for collaboration and partnership between the public and private sectors in shaping AI regulation, emphasising the need for guardrails to prevent misuse and ensure responsible AI deployment. He emphasised Cisco’s commitment to working closely with regulators and fostering public-private partnerships to drive progress in the AI regulatory landscape.

A key insight from the conversation was Patel’s vision for a unified security platform, where Cisco, Microsoft, and Palo Alto Networks might all play pivotal roles. He stressed the need for unification in the security industry, with fewer disparate solutions and more integrated platforms, ultimately simplifying the security landscape for organisations navigating diverse vendor ecosystems.

Patel echoed a sense of responsibility and ethical consideration, emphasising the need for a thoughtful approach to AI deployment while also recognising the transformative power of AI in democratising security and addressing the talent shortage in the industry.

Cisco’s evolution in the realm of cybersecurity, as articulated by Jeetu Patel, reflect a convergence of leadership, innovation, and a commitment to harnessing AI for the betterment of security. As the digital landscape evolves, the insightful conversation with Jeetu Patel offers a glimpse into the transformative potential of AI in fortifying organisations against the ever-expanding frontier of cyber threats.
