Tecala to Strengthen Customer Email Security Defences with Check Point Software Technologies Partnership

Sydney, 22 April 2024 – Leading technology service provider Tecala Group has announced that it has been appointed a Check Point Software Technologies partner in Australia with a focus on reinforcing customers’ email cybersecurity posture and providing comprehensive cybersecurity solutions that not only protect against known threats but also anticipate and mitigate emerging risks.

Tecala’s Next Generation Email Security solution built on Check Point’s patented Harmony Email and Collaboration technology uses AI and ML to analyse user’s historical interactions and email usage patterns. By mapping user history and past communications, Tecala provides pre-emptive insight to complex email security threats, such as Business Email Compromise (BEC) which are rising in prevalence and damage.

According to the FBI, BEC scams have cost organisations around the world over US$43 billion. Further, BEC 3.0 scams, which leverage legitimate services, require a more effective approach to email security. With organisations facing an average of 1,248 cyber-attacks per week, companies are deploying artificial intelligence (AI)-powered cyber security solutions to prevent increasingly sophisticated cyber-attacks.

By scanning every file and attachment for malware and ransomware in the cloud, Tecala identifies and captures malicious emails and files before they reach the user’s inbox, keeping users and their inbox data safe. At the same time, because Check Point technology constantly trains and tunes the AI on a specific environment, it identifies and blocks attacks unique to an organisation. Check Point Harmony is also trained on the attacks missed by default security and secure email gateways. Check Point is also able to automatically block compromised accounts based on AI analysis.

Dominic Sargent, Global Director of Technology, CXC Global, said, “Since implementing Tecala’s Next Generation Email Security solution earlier this year, CXC Global has stopped 60,000 spam emails that would previously have ended up in staff inboxes. There have also been approximately 1500 separate phishing campaigns that have been prevented.”

Sargent says the new security platform has also identified around 350 emails where the sender was not who they claimed to be. These new security enhancements and AI/ML capabilities have significantly reduced the chances of phishing campaigns being successful. The new security platform also has a contextual awareness of typical communication patterns. This makes it much easier to flag activity that is potentially malicious for closer examination by the IT team.

Murray Mills, Head of Cyber Security, Tecala, said, “This partnership with Check Point further strengthens Tecala as a cybersecurity frontrunner and enables local businesses to enhance their defenses. Together, we are setting a benchmark for security and innovation.
“By combining Check Point’s cutting-edge email security protection solutions with Tecala’s award winning services and local expertise, we aim to elevate cybersecurity standards and foster a resilient digital environment for organisations. It’s this seamless integration and interoperability that enables our clients to enjoy reduced complexity, while improving the capabilities of customers’ existing technology platforms. This reduced complexity leads to the optimisation of IT investments and reduced business risk.”

Tecala is an ISO27001 Information Security Standard Accredited Managed Service Provider, with a strong heritage in providing cyber security consulting services to organisations in Australia, many of which operate in highly regulated environments. In recent years, the company has invested in the delivery of an agile, proactive, and multilayered approach cyber security with 24/7 ‘eyes on the glass’ to see new threats and risks as they arise and support clients with risk and threat mitigation.
