Palo Alto Networks, the global cybersecurity leader, hosted its first Cyber Safe Kids Family Workshop on Sunday, 11 August. The free interactive workshop for parents and children aged 7-12, brought together families from across Sydney to equip them with the skills and knowledge for navigating the digital world with greater confidence and safety.
Lisa Sim, Vice President, Marketing, JAPAC at Palo Alto Networks, said, โEveryone should have the skills needed to thrive in our increasingly digital world, while remaining safe. By equipping the next generation with the tools for navigating the digital world confidently and safely, we can collectively foster a more secure digital environment for everyone.โ
The workshops were led by Nina Bual and Michelle Yao, the award-winning authors and co-founders of Cyberlite – an online safety education organisation – using the interactive workbook Ready, Get Set, Connect! to educate attendees on essentialย topics, including:
- Identifying and avoiding phishing traps
- Preventing and addressing cyberbullying
- Recognising and combating fake news
- Creating strong passwords and safeguarding online privacy
- Establishing a cyber-safe environment at home
Attendees at the workshop also had the opportunity to hear from Olympic medalist & World Champion Snowboarder, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, Scotty James, who shared his experiences with cybersecurity and emphasised the importance of staying safe online.
โLike most athletes, I use social media to connect with my fans all over the world. When Iโm on the road competing, itโs a great way to stay in touch with my family and friends,” said Scotty James. “Itโs so important that we help people, especially kids, understand that social media also has its challenges. By educating kids on online safety, we can teach them the skills to be confident and secure when using it.”
