NetApp, the intelligent data infrastructure company, is proud to continue its partnership with Children’s Cancer Institute (the Institute) in its third year as the Presenting Partner of the CEO Dare to Cure initiative, a major fundraising event supporting critical research into childhood cancer.
Globally, according to the World Health Organisation, 400,000 cases of cancer are diagnosed annually in children and adolescents, making it one of the leading causes of death for children. Alarming statistics also show that cancer kills three children every week in Australia – more than any other disease. Childhood cancer research plays a vital role in giving young patients the possibilities for more effective treatment, higher survival rates and fewer long-term complications. And for 40 years, the Institute has been conducting research into the causes, prevention and cure of childhood cancer.
NetApp has been partnering with Children’s Cancer Institute for more than seven years in support of its drive to cure childhood cancer, by providing solutions that help the institute build intelligent data infrastructure that can securely and sustainably scale to store, manage and analyse massive cancer research datasets.
With increasing global cooperation in cancer research, progress is growing exponentially, driving demand for rapid data processing and sharing in a secure, flexible and scalable manner. NetApp’s data management solutions make it possible to integrate data on the fly to deliver unprecedented computational efficiency, while setting the global standard for organising, mining, and sharing the large-sequence datasets that are transforming medical research.
“At NetApp, we are committed to harnessing technology to uplift societies. To reap positive impacts, organisations need to drive this commitment as a collective effort, and our long-standing partnership with Children’s Cancer Institute demonstrates our continued support for young patients and their families towards a future with zero childhood cancer,” said Mark Fioretto, Area Vice President and Managing Director of NetApp in Australia and New Zealand. “Together, we can create smarter treatments and support more children to survive and thrive beyond cancer.”
Fioretto will challenge himself in “Walk on Fire & Glass” after successfully completing a gruelling ice bath and snake pit challenge last year. He has pledged to raise $60,000 in the fundraising efforts this year.
Associate Professor Mark Cowley, Deputy Director, Enabling Platforms, Children’s Cancer Institute, added: “NetApp’s commitment in terms of technology and fundraising is instrumental for our research efforts. We are excited to have NetApp’s continued support of our signature CEO Dare to Cure initiative. Every dare taken is one step closer to achieving our vision of curing every child of cancer.”
