Google Cloud today announced the expansion of its Risk Protection Program (RPP) to the Australian market, providing local organisations with a streamlined path to cyber insurance that reflects their real-time security posture. The move comes as Australian companies face rising cyber risks, stricter regulatory standards, and mounting insurance premiums.
The RPP – an industry-first collaboration between Google Cloud and leading global insurers – now includes new partners Beazley and Chubb, joining founding partner Munich Re, which is extending support through its specialty and SME-focused arms, Munich Re Specialty and HSB.
The expansion brings advanced, data-driven cyber insurance capabilities to Australian businesses of all sizes, helping them meet growing expectations under APRA’s CPS 230 and CPS 234 standards, the Privacy Act, and other regulatory frameworks.
“Australian organisations are under more pressure than ever to demonstrate cyber resilience and meet compliance requirements,” said Monica Shokrai, Head of Business Risk and Insurance at Google Cloud. “By combining real-time cloud security insights with insurer expertise, the Risk Protection Program delivers a faster, smarter, and more affordable path to cyber insurance.”
Program Highlights
- Cyber Insurance Hub: Enables customers to assess their Google Cloud security posture, receive proactive recommendations, and share detailed reports directly with insurers to accelerate underwriting.
- Data-driven insurance pricing: Supports an early model of cyber telematics, where real-world cloud security metrics inform insurance premiums – moving away from static or outdated assessments.
- Expanded coverage: Includes Affirmative AI insurance for Google Cloud AI workloads and quantum threat coverage as part of Chubb’s offerings.
- Simplified onboarding: Beazley is introducing a one-page attestation process for eligible digital-native organisations, replacing complex applications.
- Access to Mandiant expertise: Munich Re customers gain access to world-class threat intelligence, incident preparedness exercises, and breach coaching via Mandiant and Google Threat Intelligence Group.
- $300 in free credits: New customers can explore Google Cloud’s suite of security tools with $300 in free credits and access to over 20 products at no cost.
The Australian cyber insurance market is currently tightening, with insurers increasing scrutiny on security controls in response to recent ransomware attacks across retail, healthcare, and logistics sectors. As premiums rise and underwriting processes grow more complex, the Risk Protection Program offers a much-needed solution.
“We were early adopters of RPP and it’s transformed our insurance process,” said Justinian Fortenberry, CISO and VP of Engineering at Etsy. “Because I know what data insurers are looking for, I can respond proactively and save time on renewals. I’d recommend it to anyone.”
Frank Caserta, CISO at LiveRamp, added: “The program has helped us turn cloud security data into actionable insights and simplified our reporting to insurers.”
By aligning insurance outcomes with demonstrated security investments, Google Cloud’s Risk Protection Program offers Australian enterprises an opportunity to strengthen their cyber posture, streamline compliance reporting, and reduce the cost and complexity of cyber insurance.
