A new global study commissioned by Milestone Systems has found organisations using modern video management software (VMS) can significantly improve operational efficiency, with security investigations completed up to 60 per cent faster and administrative workloads substantially reduced.
The independent analysis, conducted by Forrester Consulting, examined the business value of deploying Milestone’s XProtect video management platform. According to the study, organisations using the platform reported a range of operational and financial benefits, including faster incident investigations, improved workflows and stronger returns on investment.
The research found that a composite organisation modelled by Forrester – representing a business with approximately 2,500 employees, 10 to 15 active XProtect users and around 500 cameras – achieved a positive return on investment within six months.
Among the key findings, organisations reported a 60 per cent reduction in security investigation times, helping security teams identify and respond to incidents more quickly. The study also highlighted a 30 per cent improvement in productivity by consolidating multiple security workflows into a single platform.
Administrative efficiency was another area of improvement, with organisations reducing time spent managing and accessing video footage. According to the study, these efficiencies contributed to a 133 per cent return on investment over a three-year period.
The findings come as organisations across Australia continue to invest in technology platforms that can support both security operations and broader business objectives. Increasingly, video systems are being used not only for incident response, but also to provide operational insights across facilities, transport networks, public spaces and critical infrastructure environments.
Martin Skovbo Larsen, Chief Marketing Officer at Milestone Systems, said organisations are increasingly seeking technologies that deliver measurable business outcomes beyond traditional security applications.
“Video data is becoming a valuable operational asset for organisations looking to improve efficiency, strengthen situational awareness and support better decision-making,” he said.
The study reinforces the growing role of intelligent video platforms as organisations seek to maximise the value of existing camera infrastructure while addressing operational challenges across multiple departments.
For Australian organisations evaluating investments in physical security technology, the findings suggest that modern VMS platforms can provide benefits that extend beyond surveillance, helping to streamline processes and support faster, more informed decision-making.
