Commvault Extends Enterprise Resilience to Structured and AI Data with Real-Time Governance Controls

Sydney, Australia – April 2026Commvault (NASDAQ: CVLT), a leader in unified resilience at enterprise scale, today announced an expansion of its data and AI security capabilities within Commvault Cloud, enabled through its recent acquisition of Satori. The enhancements extend data discovery, classification and risk assessment into structured data environments and introduce real-time access governance for structured databases, including vector databases used in AI applications.

These innovations build on Commvault’s existing data security posture management (DSPM) capabilities for unstructured data, while adding real-time governance controls to manage access to structured data.

The advancements also unify visibility across environments by identifying sensitive data, surfacing exposure and policy violations, and consolidating risk insights. This enables organisations to prioritise remediation efforts based on impact, improve resilience, support compliance requirements and reduce overall data exposure across both production and backup data.

In the face of evolving cyber threats, sensitive and regulated data continues to be a primary target for attackers. Industry research indicates that 90 per cent of organisations have exposed sensitive data that can be surfaced by AI, while 46 per cent of breaches involve customer personally identifiable information (PII) and 40 per cent involve employee PII. Without comprehensive discovery, classification and access controls, this data can be exploited, increasing the risk of breaches, regulatory non-compliance and complex recovery scenarios.

The Commvault Cloud platform delivers broad data discovery, classification and policy enforcement across structured, semi-structured and unstructured data in hybrid and multi-cloud environments. The latest enhancements include:

  • AI-enabled classification capabilities to automatically identify and classify sensitive data across the enterprise, highlighting high-risk environments with excessive access or over-retained data
  • Data access governance to monitor and control how structured data is accessed and used, reducing the risk of data leakage, including exposure through AI models or generative AI outputs
  • Enhanced resilience through Commvault Cloud, integrating data visibility and access controls directly into cyber resilience and recovery workflows

“As organisations expand into cloud and AI-driven environments, sensitive data is increasingly distributed across structured and unstructured systems,” said Yoav Cohen, Vice President of Product Management at Commvault and Co-founder of Satori. “Without clear visibility and real-time access controls, that data can become overexposed and difficult to manage. By extending discovery and governance into structured data environments, we are helping organisations reduce unnecessary exposure and strengthen resilience across both live and backup data.”

Industry analysts highlight that as enterprises scale AI adoption, data governance is emerging as a critical gap in many security strategies.

Availability

Real-time data access governance capabilities for structured data are available today via single sign-on from Commvault Cloud and are commercially available as an add-on to existing Commvault Cloud packages.

Structured data discovery and classification capabilities are expected to reach general availability in late 2026. These will extend Commvault’s DSPM functionality, which is currently available for unstructured data as part of the Commvault Cloud Platinum package or as add-ons to other tiers.
