Figma Deepens Local Roots In Australia With Local Data Hosting and More

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA (JULY 22, 2025) – Figma, a leading collaborative design and product development platform, announced today that it will be launching new governance features for enterprise customers and offering the option to host their Figma file data (including FigJam, Make, Sites, Buzz, and Slides) within Australia later this year.

“Australia is among the fastest growing markets for Figma in Asia Pacific. We’ve heard from Australian customers who deeply care about data protection and security that they’d like the option to have their data stored locally. As more companies recognise design as a true differentiator, we want to provide them with secure, local infrastructure needed to build with confidence,” said Scott Pugh, Vice President of Sales and General Manager, Asia Pacific, at Figma. “This investment strengthens our commitment to Australia as we continue to prioritise the needs of our Australian customers.”

Figma, which launched in Australia in November 2024 with the opening of its Sydney office, serves many of Australia’s most ambitious companies, including National Australia Bank (NAB), Safety Culture, and Atlassian.

Data localisation will enable Figma customers to continue enjoying the power, scale and efficiencies of the platform—but with even greater control over where their data is hosted. This will serve regulated industries such as the public sector, healthcare, and finance, where additional data security requirements may apply. Figma will begin local file hosting in Australia, starting in Q4 2025. This launch is the first for Figma in Asia Pacific and an extension of Figma’s data residency feature for enterprises in Europe and the US.

“Designing simple, intuitive experiences for customers is essential to us at NAB, especially for our mobile apps and Internet banking, where more than 98% of all customer interactions now occur. Figma has been a key part of our design tooling to help us create customer-obsessed products and services. This initiative will expand the ways we can use the entire Figma suite to create even better experiences for NAB’s customers,” said Lance Thornswood, Chief Design Officer, National Australia Bank.

Today, Figma is also introducing Governance+, so that enterprise customers can manage their data, and utilise additional access controls for security and compliance. Governance+ customers benefit from:

  • Centralised control: Ensure all Figma activity by employees happens in the right instance and on the approved networks, where company policies apply. With features like IP Allowlist and Network Access Restrictions (NAR), businesses can protect their data from slipping into personal or unauthorised spaces.
  • Account security: Protect data by enforcing secure authentication requirements. With Enforced Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) and Extended Idle Session Timeout, businesses have tighter control and protection of their organisation’s content. Support for multiple SSO configurations will be coming soon.
  • Data governance: Ensure compliance with the organisation’s data standards with visibility into Figma activity through tools like the Discovery Pipeline. This will help the business meet electronic communication retention policies and support legal discovery requirements.

This adds to the security features currently available to enterprise customers, including action logs, SAML single sign-on, and role assignment with the existing identity management system, as well as the ability to limit external collaborators from joining the organisation.

Governance+ is now available to all customers on the Enterprise plan. For more detailed information about Governance+, please visit: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/31825370509591-Governance-for-Figma-Enterprise
