Why do you enjoy working in the cyber security field?

I enjoy working in the cyber security field because it allows me to use my problem-solving skills, to protect important information and systems from malicious attacks or malpractice. It has also given me the opportunity to work in varied sectors, in many countries, in different contexts to achieve securing what is important to governments, businesses and the community. 

What are your words of advice to encourage other women to work in the space? 

Start by learning the basics, such as networking, programming and security protocols and build on these such as network security, application, or incident response.  Don’t do this alone and join like-minded people in cybersecurity, at events and groups,  as there are many organisations that help support and mentor your career.  Finally, take a risk! Believe in yourself and your abilities. Cybersecurity is a field that requires confidence, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Don’t be afraid to take risks and try new things.
