Title: Strategic Threat Advisor
Why do you enjoy working in the cyber security field?
Not one day is the same in the field of cyber threat intelligence. Things move very quickly, giving you little chance to get bored. The other aspect of cyber threat intelligence that resonates with me is its openness. Spy agencies have secrets that they deliver to policymakers, but in cyber, everyone is a policymaker and there is an inherent need to remain open, share intelligence and collaborate.
What are your words of advice to encourage other women to work in the space?
Dive in, even if you can’t swim. I am a big advocate of learning by doing. When I first started in cybersecurity I had to google “ransomware”. No one is born an expert. You have to be confident in who you are and who you can be. And don’t worry about not knowing it all, cybersecurity is a complex field requiring many different skillsets to collaborate. Master what interests you and never apologise for not knowing the technical details of something else.
